Hypnosis

Hypnosis has been successfully used to produce long-lasting change with individuals since 1843. Hypnosis is a proven process that induces the state of deep relaxation (also called trance) in a person in order to communicate more directly to and make changes at the unconscious level.

It is NOT:

  • Being asleep
  • Being unconscious
  • Being gullible
  • Being weak-minded
  • Being controlled by someone else
  • Being brainwashed
  • Being manipulated

If a person cannot follow instructions he/she cannot be hypnotized.

Hypnosis is a willful suspension of disbelief. It is when the Critical Faculty, a psychological membrane that separates the conscious and the unconscious mind, the part that cares to distinguish between reality and fantasy, is gone or by-passed. It is by getting beneath the Critical Faculty that we are able to make lasting change.

The human brain enters the Alpha wave pattern about every 90 minutes. This is where one feels drowsy, and where day-dreaming may occur, yet the person is still technically awake. Hypnosis is directing the brain to enter this state rapidly through a specific use of language and tonality. Physiologically, Hypnosis is the same as meditation.

It is in this state, having by-passed the Critical Faculty, we are able to give the unconscious mind positive suggestions of adopting a new behavior or belief. Since 90-95% of our behavior is unconscious (you do not need to consciously tell your heart to beat or your lungs to inhale) by placing positive suggestions or commands directly in the unconscious mind we are able to produce fast, effective, long-term, lasting change.

Along with N.L.P., Hypnosis is the induction of a profound change in the state of consciousness of an individual through a cooperative flow of energy and ideas. This means that the individual being hypnotized is in full control throughout the entire process and may choose to come out of the hypnotic state, or trance, at will.

This also means that the unconscious mind will not accept any suggestions or commands that violate the individual’s values or morals, therefore there is nothing one will do under Hypnosis that he/she would not be willing to do in the waking state. Just as with NLP, Hypnosis is a do-with process not a do-to process; this means everyone is in charge of his/her own mind and therefore his/her own results, and everyone always has the choice to take a certain action or behave in a certain way.

Hypnosis can be used as a stand-alone technique or therapy or in conjunction with N.L.P. and M.E.R.® during a Breakthrough Coaching Session. To learn more about Breakthrough Coaching click here.
